Does anyone actually know why or WHO brought this issue to the forefront?

It makes no sense, and sounds like a lot of work and mess and stink just to gets some eggs and some drumsticks.

Did a quick search, apparently it costs about $30.00 a month to feed 10 chickens.Eggs are fairly cheap and chicken isn't that pricey either, Whether these chickens/eggs are for personal consumption or for sale, doesn't sound like a good money making venture or even a way to save money on groceries.
