I split this because I think it could grow into its own discussion fast.
I can see part of the reason building permits are down; the last time I went to apply for one it took about 3 hours. It's now to the point where I think I would be less likely to get one for any future work that I am doing.
So basically the city is taking a department that was understaffed, and chopping jobs because there aren't enough staff to handle the full work load.
Sure, cut some of the fat perhaps, but don't take away from a department that is there to ensure public safety.
