I've started (the last couple years) to harvest seeds from my own produce/plants/flowers. If something grows well, I will make sure to harvest seed from that plant. Ofcourse you can't do this with everything, but I've got a couple of flowers etc.. that are 3rd generation from the original.

Easy to do with tomatoes as well. Save the seeds from one tomatoe and you have more than enough for next years crop.
