I can't say anything about the six from personal experience. I, like a good handful of people on this board, own a 3. I have not much, if anything, bad to say about it. Mazda has really upped the ante, as Toyota and Honda are usually the default choice for Japanese cars due to reputation. Mazda has chosen to market a more exciting product, and it has turned into massive success for them. They're real good cars too.

Some car people (including me) take Top Gear's word on almost everything. They do NOT like the Mazda 3 for some reason (I blame the European choice of engines). However, they have nothing but good things to say about the 6. As far as reliability, I haven't heard anything bad about them either, since that's what you seem to be mostly wondering.
