The Googles tell me that there were 605 murders in Canada in 2005 and 1407 in Texas the same year. There are about nine million more people in Canada than there are in Texas.
That is not a good model to follow.

I can't find this story in the Lethbridge Herald. Do you have a link?
If it is true, I can't blame him for protecting his property, but his property was no longer threatened after the first swing of the bat. If he really did break both the guy's legs and one of his arms, at some point in this confrontation the car thief was lying on the ground and the other guy was taking batting practice.
