You call Johnny Cash a weirdo and go on to compare his career to the most famous "Weirdo" in music. Cash is one of the most influential musicians in history and could easily be put at the same level as Jackson or higher. Jackson's popularity happened to come at the ideal time. While hugely talented, Jackson also benifited from the MTV craze in the 80's.

As for addiction; wouldn't you say Micheal had a little addiction to visiting the doctor and plastic surgeon. Not drugs, but something that could possibly have lead to his death none the less.
