Just curious, because my dog has tried to go after them before but I've stopped her, do you really have to bring the dog to the vet to get them taken out? What would they do differently to take the quills out.
What is the worst that can happen from a dog getting porcupine quills in his snout?

You don't have to take them to the vet, but it can be worth the money - especially if they have them in sensitive areas such as the nose and mouth.
The vet can put the dog out and remove them without worrying about having his fingers snapped off.
