I used to have a car and a truck. I parked the truck a block away on the far side of a street where there were no houses rather than take up a parking spot nearby that someone else could legitimately use.
You might not "own" the spots in front of your house, but common courtesy is to try to share the available spaces equitably. A good neighbour doesn't need a note to do this, it's done automatically and issues don't arise.
