Assuming they can do so at a speed which allows them to merge
seamlessly into traffic then all the power to them. Its when they do so in a manner that causes traffic to slow down that there is a problem.

I disagree. I do it because it encourages proper flow/less braking. When everyone gets into their lane miles and miles ahead, it causes backups and jams.

So I got lots of notice the lane is ending? You still think its better we all move over miles early and cause a massive back-up in the right lane? Regardless of construction, accident, or road design, it simply makes more sense to carry on to the end of the lane and then take turns car for car.
