Burial land sure, there has to be respect paid.
That said, the DND had that land for 100 years before it got returned and used part of it as a firing range. Point being, much of the sacred area already has been trampled all over already.
Also, for all the "return land to a sacred state" talk, the band wanted all the buildings retained when the DND left, the DND levelled them all (as per the original treaty) other then the crappy housing they let the scum of the band squat in for 3 years.
I realize the price back then were probably some Hudsons Bay blankets from the white man to get that land, and the Band should receive adequate compensation for the use of the land, and not get duped this time around, but they've been dragging their feet for 4+ years on that, looking to squeeze some more dimes out of the levels of government, hoping the public pressure forces the governments to cave.
Living in an adjacent community, I full support the immediate shut down of Calgary tax payer funded roads that allow access and shutting off the city's power grid to the Casino too if this falls through.
