Same thing happened to me so I've been on my backup computer for a couple of days.

What I just did was to insert my Windows Vista disc but first I had to go into my bios to change my boot up order to my DVD to boot first as somehow it got changed. I went through the install procedure until I got to options to repair or use system restore. I used system restore to go back to the 22nd of June and now it's working although not as well as it should.

I also did the windows update and it went well this time. It seems to be a problem when it updates when it is shutting down and than on restarting it, so I reset update to only notify me and not install. I'll do it myself from now on. Hope this helps.
