I will continue to use it in email, etc.
Example, here's a PM I sent somebody:
"I had to delete your post. While I do see the humour, I'm sure you can also see how it isn't appropriate.
Cheers
Ken"
By using "Cheers" in place of "Thanks" I still got the thanks message across, and the person receiving it knows that I was making a positive comment.
Another example; as an IT Support person:
"I have restored all of the folders that you deleted.
Cheers
Ken"
In that case, they are not getting a "thanks" from me- they caused me some extra work. But I'm not upset. So "Cheers" is also an appropriate salutation.
