Guess what, i thoroughly enjoyed it. It a mindless summer action flick and it served it's purpose.

Can't wait for #3.
Exactly. People who are expecting groundbreaking cinema shouldn't watch movies based exclusively on a line of children's toys.

Personally, I loved it. It was cheesy, mindless fun. It totally works for this franchise.

I don't think it works for something like the Star Trek franchise though. Transformers are cheesy to the core, I mean really, we're talking super advanced robots that disguise themselves as trucks, cars, planes and appliances.

Star Trek has an expectation to be light funny, but still very, very serious and intellectual. Because they have the same writers, they have to be very careful because you can see a lot of the same mindset. Star Trek was a hair's breadth away from being the same mindless action as Transformers, and it simply can't be that way, even if that's what they think the masses want.

I'm also really happy that they didn't fall into the same trap as the 80s Transformers movie and effectively kill off Optimus Prime to sell a few more toys. He is way too essential to the franchise.
