They don't need to be zany, but the awkward, strained show I heard this morning wasn't very appealing. I thought the "Did the mayor diss us?" was totally contrived.
It just struck me like listening to people who meet each other a couple times a year at their spouses' company function, and are polite but don't really have much to say.
