That's not a brutal deal for iphone 3g users in my opinion. It's not great, but it's at least doable for the hardcore.
I still can't figure out why I'm eligible to upgrade as I purchased mine in July of last year. My inability to get a solid answer makes me paranoid that I'm not eligible at all. I'd also like to know that if I did upgrade this year if I'd be eligible to upgrade again next year when apple inevitably does this all again. My gut feeling is that I would not be.
I'm starting to wonder if the smart move would be to just stick with the 3g for another year. The 3gs is awesome and all, but it's not mind blowing. Apple has released a new version each year, so it isn't crazy to think they'll do it next summer as well. I'd hate to upgrade to a 3gs and not be able to upgrade next year to a phone with much cooler features. Ah the plight of the early adopter.

That's not too bad if Offer 2 works. You get the new phone for $199 and you could probably sell your 3G to make some, if not all, of it back. I think it would be smarter to stick with the 3G for another year and then upgrade to the next iteration of the phone (or if a better android/palm phone comes out, your free to jump to that one).
