I'm sure the last person you want to hear from is an apple fan with no hands on experience with the android, but here you go anyways!

I ran into a guy golfing last week who was an even bigger apple geek than I am. He wasn't the stereotypical stuck up apple fan, but he was close. Anyways, he has an android and he actually says that he loves it. He still prefers his iphone, but he said there are plenty of things that he felt the android actually did better. If I knew you'd be asking this question I would have asked him what those things were. Sorry about that.

One thing he did mention was that apple and google have one thing that really sets them apart. While both function very well, apple certainly puts a great deal of emphasis on design. If you're somebody like me who not only appreciates that but almost demands it, that can be a big factor. Other people could care less how things look, and that's totally cool too ... it's just not for me.

I think both phones would serve you well. From what I've heard about the android it's a rock solid device, but it's missing one rather important feature. The app store is just massive and any smartphone will have a very hard time keeping up with it. As the phone's popularity grows more people are developing apps, and that's a wave I wouldn't want to miss. The update coming tomorrow that allows for devices to talk directly to the iphone opens up a great deal of possibilities.
