This year I felt I should aim for the best picks possible. It is a little ironic that I'm aiming for quality this year, when last year I was one of the guys massing the late round picks.
I did surrender #52 and #65 to get the checkers Pahlsson and Pandolfo. I needed defensive forwards no matter what sim we were going to use. I'm optimistic role players and checkers will have more of an impact in the new sim.
What Grant is saying is definitely valid. In my position with the ECHL players I figured why not try to move the 4ths and 5ths in an upward direction for a shot at a 'better' draftee. There is a point in the draft where you shouldn't do these type of move ups, probably once you start talking 3rd rounders. I'm not going to do this with the 5 best picks that I have. They're staying with me.
Everybody has their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to prospects and drafting. I have no access to Canadian major junior but plenty to the NCAA. I have season tickets at Colgate University, the NHL network televises a game every Friday, the Fox Sports networks broadcast WCHA games. That's why I go after college guys so much.
P.S. Was the Stars bid for Corban Knight successful? Felt I should try and pounce on him. He'll make up for trading some of these picks away. Ranked 64th North American skater by Central Scouting. His mother delivered him at the right time, so he was a free agent by the CPHL league rules.
