Default Correct Order of Burger Toppings

So Sunterra downtown has this thing where $9.99 gets you 4 freshly ground never frozen big hamburger paties, 4 slices of real cheddar cheese (not processed), a tray of romaine lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced onions (purple ones that were sweet and delicious, not overly hot when raw), 4 large hamburger buns, and a tub of BBQ sauce. You just have to take it home and grill it yourself.

When assembling this thing last night I was confused. I'm so used to having lettuce and tomato on the top of the burger because you often see that in fast food pictures and how you usually have sandwiches, but with the cheese melted on the burger, it didn't seem right. I had this order from top to bottom:

Crown
Ketchup
Tomato
Lettuce
Cheese
Hamburger Patty
BBQ Sauce
Onion
Mustard
Relish
Heel

But it tasted funny and kind of wierd. Is there a better way of arranging this? Do you put the lettuce and tomato on the bottom of the patty instead? It seems to make more sense now that I think about it. Melted cheese and ketchup should only ever touch bacon and burger and shouldn't touch raw and cold vegetables. If the veggies are on the bottom, they mesh much better with mustard and relish. If you are doing a Canadian version, where does mayonnaise go? As you can tell, I've never really made a burger in my life.
