Yeah, definitely all the cold comes up from the mattress. We put some old sleeping bags underneath us and then actually sleep in the good ones to help with this problem.

This air mattress, is it one of those foot-thick ones or is it one of those canvas ones for the beach? The big beach ones are perfect to use as a bed. Just put a blanket or two down first, then use a heavy blanket on top.
Peanut, you and your old man sleep in separate sleeping bags? Half the fun of sleeping outside is the necessary use of body heat to keep warm. I always just bring my heavy duvet.
