Generally the A teams will be playing as its kind of a World Cup tuneup, its in the host country and teams use this tournament to get their World Cup rosters closer to finalized.

The Confederations Cup is a tournament for all the winners of the various geographical Conference tournaments. For example, Spain is in because they won the Euro Cup, Italy is in because they won the World Cup, Brazil is in because they won the Copa America (in style against a stacked Argentina no less) ditto for all the other nations, they won their respective local tournaments.

Its a bit of a 'throw-in' tournament but its international soccer so it'll be fun to watch.
