Thats one hour and thirty five minutes spent commuting per day provided there are no irregular delays (on top of the normal ones) or breakdowns in even one lane.

I go in for 9:30 and leave at 6 and my commute is always 12 minutes each way. 24 minutes. And it makes it better if I hang out in the shop after hours to work on personal stuff or even just have a buddy come around with a couple of beers and chill on the tailgate to wait out rush hour.

This is specifically why I did not move to the earlier shift when I had the chance.

Point of the post:

Your extra 700 sq ft., little backyard and cookie-cutter house may not be all that you hope if you think clearly about all the pros and cons.

Well, for one, my commute time from where we want to be (Aspen/Cougar Ridge area) is almost identical to where we're building (Copperfield) to get to where i work due to the fact there are no major routes near by. I either have to go through springbank and up stoney and then on secondary highways, or hit glenmore and get over to deerfoot.

I've never had a commute under 30-45 minutes. I can deal.

I can basically set my own hours to avoid rush hour at work.

Having pride of ownership to a 'cookie cutter home' will be much higher than a much smaller condo where I have zero grass, pay ridiculous condo fees of which contribute to some know-it-all telling me exactly how I have to live and that i can't have certain things here or there.

Fact of the matter is that's where we can afford to live in a new house in what I consider a decent neighbourhood. If that means I have to deal with a little traffic, it's really nothing new. Especially since the ring road will ease the pain in a year or two aswell.
