I do believe it is ending an innocent life and I don't think it is painless for the baby as abortion is legal during the stage of development when there is a brain and central nervous system. But that's the choice I make for MY life. While ending the life of a serial killer via the death penalty could also be considered barbaric, its not an innocent life and ending that life potentially protects other innocent people from being victims of violent crime and death.
So, for me, both abortion and death penalty requires killing someone. The difference for me is who deserved it and who didn't.
I should add, I have zero respect for pro-lifers that harass people going to clinics, kill doctors or behave like crazy people. I'm not a fan of over the top, militants supporting any cause. I seriously doubt there tactics have ever changed anyone's mind on the topic because they act like a bunch of idiots.

I'm not that far off from you actually. I'm not pro-choice. But I believe making abortion illegal would have far greater consequences for society than legal abortion does now. I abhor it as a form of birth control. I think, at times, it is a necessary evil. I think it should be available and strictly regulated.
As for the death penalty, I've moved firmly into the anti- camp. Not because I think it's wrong or barbaric but because I think there is too great a chance of executing an innocent person.
