The Montreal Canadiens are pleased to welcome the newest addition to the team, Rick DiPietro.

To break down the trade, we felt one of the biggest weaknesses we had this year was our goaltending. Bryzgalov was never consistent enough for us to win enough games. He is a legitimate starter in PHX (inconsistent at times) and is a solid goalie. DiPietro on the other hand is an outstanding goalie but has injury issues. This was a risk we were willing to take as we wanted DiPietro's ratings and feel he can rebound from his injuries.

The outstanding play of Jonas Hiller enabled us to take a bit of a risk on DiPietro because he could very well be a starter in Anaheim next year. This move also does take him off the market.

We did give up our 1st next year, but in a deep draft this year a 2nd rounder is worth a reasonable amount.

Thanks Dan for the negotiations, hopefully this helps our team next year.
