Right on both counts.
If possible, don't eat carbs right before bed. I know your liver is burning glycogen(carbs) all night long, but at nowhere NEAR the pace it will if you're actually doing something like Bergy said.
Try to get protein right before bed....so your body can break it down and repair muscle tissue even better while you sleep.
