I couldn't care less if thieves look in my car, find nothing and leave. A broken window on the other hand is both angering and expensive.

Does anyone know if having your insurance/registration in there is a security threat. That's the only thing important that I keep in my car that I need to lock up for.
I use to do this exact thing when I lived in Calgary. The underground parking in my condo downtown had frequent break-ins so I would just leave my car unlocked while parked down there. It wasn't worth the burnt CD's and few dollars in change to have my window smashed.

With your insurance I would just hide it under a floor mat as someone else suggested most people committing these crimes with just check areas like arm rest, glove box and trunk. They just want to be in and out of there so looking under floor mats and usually not high priority.
