That goes both ways though. Imagine if you're a guy being accused of raping someone you never even touched. These stories have a way of hitting the local newspapers, regardless of guilt or innocence. Imagine your face on the 2nd page of the Calgary Sun, with the caption, "Man Accused of Raping Teenage Girls." It wouldn't matter if you did it or not. You're already done.

Even if it isn't made public, it would certainly be pretty public within the guy's own family/career/friends etc. Like the cabby said, if he didn't have that video, he would have lost his job, his marriage... everything.

False accusations like this need to be made into an example. In this day and age, there's absolutely no excuse for a woman to not come forward if she has been legitimately assaulted. Sexual assault has been the issue du jour for years now. "They won't believe me" is no longer an acceptable reason to not come forward. There is no excuse for not making sure that these girls (and other like-minded girls watching) understand that ruining someone's life isn't a game.

Being a woman should not be the lottery ticket some girls think it is imo.
