Generally when someone mentions one of mine, it is a compliment at first, then they go on to discuss what they have, or would like to get, or that they think mine looks really good but its not for them. Of course not everyone is going to like them, and I am fine with that, you have to expect that and I do. I guess I just find the psychology behind why people don't like them, very interesting. I also find it interesting that some people need to express their opinion. I certainly don't walk up to women with short hair and say, wow, I HATE short hair on women (just for the record, I don't).

You know as far as the psychology behind it, I don't think its thats dramatic personally. There is a long history of tattooing, etc, in the world. For myself, I knew at a very young age that I wanted to get tattoos (got my first one almost 11 years ago), can't explain it, I just knew, I come from a great home, I'm university educated, and I work in a professional field that is difficult to get into, let alone certified in (although I do hate wearing the shirt and tie to work ).

I guess I just don't understand why some hate it so much I keep mine hidden at work. When others wear golf shirts some days, I don't. I keep it out of sight to most of my coworkers. Really though, why should I? REALLY? Its just artwork, and ink, seems like a really trivial thing to hate and judge people on.

Do not assume the person is trying to be different, or impress people ( I myself am too old for that crap these days ).

At the end of the day, I think people need to lighten up, if its not offensive and it makes the person happy then good. It tells you absolutely NOTHING about the person.

Also if you don't like the tattoo, just say nothing. People have their opinions and thats great, but I certainly do not need someone to validate my tattoo(s).

People don't like them I get it, I really do, that is fine. If someone asks and wants to talk about them I will no problem, if someone doesn't ask I assume its not their thing, and we don't need to talk about it. The same as if a guy chooses to grow a ponytail or a woman has really short hair, I don't feel the need to give them my opinion, whether I like it or not ( I really have no issue with either ).
I couldn't agree more. Short hair on chicks should be criminal.

Look, like it or not, people are going to judge you becaue of your tattoos. They are going to see an angry pumpkin on your arm and wonder what it means, what it represents, etc. Without even knowing you, they are going to read into what your ink means - in other words, they are going to prejudge you. It's impossible not to.

For me, I prefer to have more control over the way I'm perceived instead of in a way that I think is one dimensional. I can't be summed up in one image on my arm, but people are going to assume I can be if I had that tattoo. I'm not saying you're one-dimensional, either, just that by putting that on your arm, you're a walking billboard advertising you. And you apparently relate very closesly to pumpkins.

Your artwork looks nice as art. I don't understand why that can't be your computer desktop background or a picture on your wall. Putting it on you body does not seem like a good plan to me, but obviously it doesn't have to be a good plan to me since it's not on me.

Now to tattoos in more general terms - I'm sick of them, that's all this thread was about. I think they are a boring topic of conversation, but people I know seem to think they are unendingly interesting and deep. I reject that.

Also, like somebody pointed out before, nothing is more ridiculous than hearing somebody complain about money problems shortly after showing you their new tattoo. THAT, is truly ######ed.
