The problem isnt driving in the dark, but drving with the sun in your eyes.

Morning and evening commutes are a pain in the winter because the sun is right in your eyes. This is not the case during daylight savings time. Obviously the very fact that it is winter will change the sun's location, but it is the change in the sun's location during the rushhours that leads to reduced accidents.
