But it wasn't time travel, it was inter diemensional travel. I understand this concept as a DC comics reader with the whole "multiverse" concept. Hundreds and thousands of parrellel universes, all following their own time line and series of events. Some have great similarities, others do not, some are in the age of Rome, some are in the future..
Nero came into this Universe, not back in time in his Universe, but a new one. Not sure if he knew this himself or not, but it is similar to Superboy Prime in DC, he goes from Universe to Universe seeking revenge for his destroyed home planet.
I thought it was a very cool concept, I am not a huge ST fan, I have watched very limited shows... but this movie BLEW me away. This is the best movie I have seen in years. It wasn't the best done movie, but it was the one that has me saying WOW, and still thinking about it. I haven't seen a movie like this since Batman Returns. Maybe the fact I know just enough about Star Trek to get the numerous inside jokes, but not enough to care about anything they might have messed up makes it seem so good to me.
I think the reason they brough in Old Spock is because they wanted to have a link to the old shows.. and it helped to develope the relationship between Kirk and Spock, and perhaps make up for lost time. In the TV series were they friends during their training or...?
Edit: I also wanted to add that I thought Spock was amazing.. I don't know a lot about spock, but as an outsider I would think he is exactly how he was played in the movie. I was very impressed. As for Pine.. I thought he was a bit of a punk going in and I was against him playing Green Lantern, but if he can play Hal Jordan half as good as he played Kirk.. I am all for it. Ultimately, they have very similar personalities.
