Yikes, if you are getting infections then you are definitely doing it wrong.

Doesn't McKenzie Meadows have a separate teaching are on the west side of the driving range? Other than that, I would suggest any course and deal with one of the pros. Maybe even look at Turner Valley or Highwood.

Sorry, no experiences. I've been playing for 20+ years, (wow that sounds scary for only being 32!), and have yet to perfect the game. I took a lot of lessons as a young kid, but none as an adult unfortunately.

Lessons are crucial to starting off an enjoyable golf life - in my experience when people don't take lessons and try to learn the game on their own are rarely successful.
