There are lots of leagues who's rules indicate that a ball that strikes the back triangle of the plate is a strike.
This league also indicates a pitch arc of 6' to 12'. More often the maximum arc would be 14'. To answer trout's question it is very difficult to bring in such a pitch and not exceed 12'.
However if the umps were sticklers about the 12' we would be there all night with constant walks.
It's a hitting league hence the 12' rule.
You are right trout, why leave it up to the ump anyway? If you've got 2 strikes you should be prepared to swing at pretty much anything. Just in case.
That ump missed two HR calls also, so clearly his vision or his judgement are weak. Hopefully it's his vision considering his profession.
