When I start the computer the lights go on and you can hear the fans running but the monitor lights just as if it was off. This morning when I started it up in ended up getting a CMOS CheckSum error too. This is what my case is:
If you press the button and the fans and lights turn on, but there is no beep or nothing showing on the monitor, then it's not Posting. That CMOS error means that the problem probably lies with your CMOS and/or motherboard. Depending on the kind of motherboard, the CMOS may be fixed.

What kind of motherboard do you have? If you want to get your hands dusty, you can short the "reset jumper" for the CMOS on the board. This will reset the CMOS and it may work. If it don't, then odds are a new motherboard is in the works.
