One of the best quotes of seen about twitter, is that "There is No Winning in Twitter".

Lots of people on Twitter are calling themselves social media experts; and are using twitter to justify their jobs and their follower numbers to justify their "expertise".

Hence why you'll seem some suit in San Fransisco following you with a 1,200 followers or following 10,000 people. Typically for unknown followers, I'll look at what they post; if it's relevant or informative I'll try following them for a bit. If it's just dozens of RT every day I'll just ignore them and let them follow me.

Anyone following over 1,000 people a day is probably not going to have an opportunity to digest anything that's said, so I wouldn't worry about it being used in the wrong light.
