Edit: I looked it up. It doesn't say anything about how far you need to be from a road. Just that you cannot fire a rifle across or from a road.

Yeah, there are no specific regulations, but the rule of thumb is as long as you get to the fencline, or a reasonable approximation, then the fish cops won't have a problem with it.
