I've worked on US military contracts before for steel products, and their QC documentation is some of the strictest codes I've ever worked with. I've also bought (and still buy) a lot of steel from China, and it's hit and miss at best.

Not saying it's going to decide a US/China showdown, but from what I've seen of their products it's probably going to reduce their effectiveness.
I get what you're saying, and I think the Western militaries have an edge in technology. However, Chinese mentality would have them keeping the best stuff for themselves, and export the crap
China has a large army, and it would not be realistic to expect every unit to have the best stuff. However, there are units in every branch of the military that is "favoured" and they'll be the ones to recieve the absolute best in everything.
