I am toying with the idea of building a home server, and to justify part of this cost, I am thinking of making it a PVR as well.
I am planning on using
Myth TV, unless someone comes up with a compelling reason not to.
I am stuck on figuring out what I need in a video capture card though. There are lots out there, ranging from $50-$200 but since I have never been in the market for one, I am not sure what exactly I should be looking for. Are the USB ones any good? I might end up using my extra laptop for this temporarily, so if they are suitable, then I might go that way to begin with.
Chances are I will be using the cable box solely for this PVR, so it only needs to take input. For now I am only planning on needing the single input, but if there are reasonably priced cards with > 1 input, it might be something I would consider.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
