Seattle is tight on cap space and have many other needs... can they really afford to spend $10 million a season on somenoe who won't contribute for a couple of years?

At #17, he'd get a Joe Flacco type deal -- ~5yrs/$30 million, $9 million guaranteed.... much more manageable for someone who might sit for a season or two. That being said, I don't expect him to last to #17 in the real draft. I think he'll go top 10, either to a current pick holder or someone who trades up.
I completly agree... if the Seahawks want to draft sanchez... they will move down.

Teams always do this though so they get trade offers for people to move up. If you look at the Flacco pick last year that saw Baltimore move up to take him its because there were teams saying "Hey we are going to draft Flacco unless you want to work out a trade so you can take him"

Its very common for a GM to tell the media what position he is interested in. Look at the rams GM telling the media that he wants to draft a tackle... its pretty obvious that the Rams will draft a tackle but you have to think... Why would he say it to the media then? Its good management IMO.
