What a goof. I'm glad he was given the reception he deserved, but it is too bad for the rest of the band.
For curiosity sake, I went to the Boxmasters website which claims the rest of the Canadian portion of the tour was cancelled due to "one band member and several of the crew having the flu".
There is also a link to an article on their website from swampland.com called "In Defense of Billy Bob Thornton: When Context Isn't Truly Context". I thought it was kind of funny. It included this about Jian Gomeshi:
Throughout this controversy it hasn't been widely reported, but Ghomeshi was a member of a music group called Moxy Fruvous, a Canadian band that received little to no notice in the USA despite being critically lauded in its home country. In fact, their initial label, Atlantic Records, wouldn't release its second record in the US. Moxy Fruvous has been on record in saying that they felt they weren't a priority at Atlantic.
Is it at all possible that Ghomeshi's own point of view is clouded by his own lack of success in America? Could he be lashing out because he clearly perceives that Thornton's only musical success is due to his acting fame?
