All this green tea stuff or herbal tea or chai that is popularized is sort of like "fake Chinese food" to Asian people. And we aren't talking tea bags but actual tea leaves prepared differently or cut differently, etc.
The varieties of actual tea that you can get is astounding. Most people don't realize that if you goto a Chinese restaurant there are like 5-10 different types of tea that can be ordered with your food. It's the same for casual drinking.
Personally I prefer some Japanese "Genmai-Cha" flaked green tea with toasted rice. Since it's unbagged, you can put this in your teapot or even your coffee maker (instead of coffee grounds in the filter). Has a wonderful steeped tea flavor with a wheaty/barley/hoppy sweet flavor to it.
At work, I just put jasmine or chrysanthenum tea leaves in the single cup coffee maker and wash out the plastic filter afterwards.
