If this were to happen there is no doubt in my mind that Calgary would need a new stadium built for the occasion - McMahon isn't even close to being big enough for the event.

The only knock on Commonwealth compared to McMahon that I've heard/seen, is that with the track there, it takes a lot away from watching a football game (which will be this stadium's primary purpose, no?). Not a big fan of that personally. But the result of having it open to more events during the year (since I'm guessing it will be in an area sans noise by-law) is a sure-fire benefit.

I think the CW Games would be cool...and after that..the World Track and Field Championships - I hear lots of people watch it on TV.
