I've had some rather long and involved discussions with some of my wife's American cousins about this. They're fully onside with redrawing the Canada/US border along a north/south line as opposed to east/west. As I recall, I believe the Mississippi river was proposed by them as a logical border. They were also familiar with the whole Cascadia thing, and were not opposed to it.
