Helmets are really a personal choice. Everybody has a different shaped head, so each one will fit different.
For gloves, if you have a fair amount to spend, get yourself something with and anti-microbial and/or dri fit lining. That'll help the gloves stay dry and smell free. Warrioir tends to do this really well. If you're looking for a good feel on your stick try to get something with a Nash palm. It wears out a little quicker, but the feel is second to none. Also make sure your thumb and wrists move comfortably, but that's a personal choice. Some people prefer a "beefier glove like the supreme one 90, while others will prefer a more flexible feel similar to the graf's or eagles.
