Of course they're obligated to do what's best for the team. I have no problem with them trying to trade him, but to act like he's supposed to show up at camp like nothing happened is ridiculous. The Broncos knew damn well that attempting to trade him was going to sour the relationship, if they didn't see this coming they're just plain naive.
And I'm not sure what you're disagreeing about. Are you arguing that if this happened to another pro-bowl QB the result would be different? I don't believe that for a second. How are any "rumors" about him even an issue here? If he drinks that may be a basis for the desire to trade him, but that doesn't have anything to do with the fallout that has occurred.
