...I gotta' admit that I'm not too familiar with this tag team, having watched primarily WWE wrestling during the early 90s and again in the late 90s, but PWI ranked the Michael Hayes / Terry Gordy edition of the team as the 3rd greatest tag team of all time...combine that with the the number of championships the team has won in various organizations, and they look like a pretty damn good team.
...I have to admit I was thinking of taking the Bushwackers, being a memorable team from when I used to watch a lot of wrestling, but I think I made the best choice. |
I remember seeing the freebirds wrestle in texas when I was a kid. Terry Gordy was an unbelievable big man. Michael Hayes was all character and Buddy Roberts was a manager/wrestler. They were one of the first tag teams that would defend the tag titles with different teams all the time as Roberts would sub in and out with Michael Hayes (And yes that fat WWE guy was in fact Michael PS Hayes from the free birds)
If you watch the opening scene from the original and only good Highlander movie, that was the free birds in the wrestling match.
