Alderman calls for ban on bottled water
http://calgary.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...ub=CalgaryHome
Okay Joe, let me get this straight. You want to ban bottled water because the city had to buy *gasp* 3400 hundred bottles of water? I can't really tell from the article if he just wants the city to stop buying bottled water or if he wants to just exterminate all water bottles.
All this to save the city a few grand in expenses. I know how Joe Ceci could personally save the taxpayers $100k with an added bonus of us not having to hear from him again.
CTV even went the extra mile and got some of of Calgaries intellectual community to weigh in...

Not to nitpick, but the article says 3400 CASES, not bottles, and that's just at the municipal building.
I'd be willing to bet it's an expense that adds up pretty quickly.
Besides, even if it is only to save a few thousand dollars, why are you so up in arms about it.
The guy is using what is genearally sound logic to save some cash, I don't see how people can really be opposed to this.
Facts:
1) Bottled water costs the city money
2) Water bottles are a waste of resources, as they often end up in landfills
3) Calgary has very good quality tap water
Conclusion: Why should the city bother with the expense and waste of providing water in bottles to it's employees when it already provides the same product through the tap?
We're currently going through the process of finding ways to cut costs where I work, and one of the things that's been brougth up with no real opposition is getting rid of the free bottled water.
No one is up in arms about it, and no one is saying it's a waste of time for someone to bring it up.
