Right now the iphone email works pretty well. It's quite basic but is lacking one feature I would consider to be absolutely necessary in todays age of not deleting emails: a search function. It isn't a deal killer, but it's pretty big.

In summer the iphone is getting a large update and one of the big items is a search function for everything across the phone (including emails).

Wow. Probably couldn't disagree with this more. I'm in a business environment and use my iphone constantly. Just because it has access to many "fun" applications does not mean that it isn't suitable to a grown up environment.

The two are very different. The iPhone is way more fun but would not work well as a hardcore email device connected to an enterprise-level server. I rarely use email on the iPhone, but I do use it for texting short messages.

The iPhone does a lot more things (look at the app store), and even without extra apps, outclasses the BB for many functions, but does not replace the sturdy reliability of the BB.

I find the iPhone kind of flaky in that it often (every couple weeks minimum) needs hard resets, and I've had to wipe it and restore it 4 times already (about once every 2nd month) due to crashing.

The iPhone has intermittent problems connecting to various networks (3G, Wifi, or otherwise). Sometimes I have problems with phone calls staying connected on it, while the BB is flawless. I find the remote control for iTunes works only intermittently even though I have my home network set up properly.

My BB (I'm now on my 3rd version of the BB, have used them for many years) has never crashed, and might drop one call every 3 or 4 months, a sharp contrast to the iPhone.

Of course, I'm not downloading all kinds of apps onto my BB.
You've restored it 4 times? I am in the same boat with you about needing hard resets ... about 2 a month probably for me. As for restores, dropped calls, connecting to networks and remote control I can't say I've had any of the same problems. Can the apple store run a diagnostic for you I wonder?
