Alright, I guess it's time to finish this up...
OH, YOU DIDN'T KNOW!?! YOUR ASS BETTER CALL SOMEBODYYYYYYYYYYY!!!
You're damned right. It's me. It's me. It's the D-O Double-G. Rollin' once again with the B-A Double-D.
Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls, Children of all ages...Degeneration X proudly brings to you its WWF TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS OF THE WORRRRRRRRRRRLD!!!
The Road Dogg Jesse James! The Bad Ass Billy Gun! THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS!!!
As its 12th choice,
Team Malfunction Junction selects, in the
Tag Team Category: The 5 time WWF Tag Team Champions,
The New Age Outlaws.
Think of a food that you really hate, and then think of another food that you really hate...Now, imagine if combining those two foods made a food you really liked...That's how I think of the New Age Outlaws: Two guys who sucked whenever given singles pushes (Mr. Ass? Really?), but when you put them together, they were one of the most entertaining and popular teams in the Federation.
Monty Sopp made his WWF ring debut under the name Billy Gunn in a tag team with his storyline brother Bart. The Smoking Gunns were 3-time tag champs before Billy broke up with Bart. After a brief feud between the brothers, Billy was taken under the wing of the Honky Tonk Man, where he took the name of Rock-a-Billy (a gimmick very similar to HTM's).
Brian James, son of former wrestler "Bullet" Bob Armstrong broke into the business using his father's ring surname, being billed as Brian Armstrong. James soon joined the WWF as "The Roadie", the assistant to "Double J" Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett's gimmick was as a country music star, but it turned out that The Roadie was the real musical talent of the team, and he declared himself to be "The Real Double J" Jesse James.
Eventually, the two really bad music gimmicks collided, and James convinced Gunn to drop the Honky Tonk Man and the two men agreed to team up. As a team, James began calling himself "The Road Dogg" and Gunn became "The Badd Ass" Billy Gunn (because double letters are apparently anti-establishment and stuff).
In November 1997, the new tag team defeated The Legion of Doom to become the tag team champions. Their cheating victory and fleeing from the building led Jim Ross to refer to them as "New Age Outlaws" leaving the scene of a robbery.
Needless to say, the new nickname stuck, and the team's new Attitude fit perfectly with the new "WWF Attitude" and caught the attention of Degeneration X, which they became official members of in 1998, the day after Wrestlemania 14.
Throughout 1998, D-X and the Outlaws grew to become one of the most popular groups in professional wrestling, challenging the nWo, helping the WWF to win the Monday Night Wars (including staging the famous D-X invasion of Nitro among other events).
While together, the Outlaws were 5 time WWF Tag Team Champions (of the WORLD).
In 2001, James was released from the WWF, and joined TNA in late 2002 (using his real name, B. G. James).
After the break-up of the Outlaws, Gunn made an ineffective attempt at a singles career before teaming up with Chuck Palumbo, in the gayest (literally) storyline in WWF/E history.
After a decade with the company, Billy was released from WWE in 2004. He joined TNA in early 2005.
Eventually, the two men re-teamed, first calling themselves "The James Gang" and then "The Voodoo Kin Mafia" (the initials VKM being the same as Vincent Kennedy McMahon's).
And if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...SUCK IT!!!
So, in the mean time, and in between time, that's it, another edition of Team Malfunction Junction.
