Wow! I went to the Apple Store today, and after the Geniuses checked my iPod touch over, they replaced it on the spot! It's technically not "new", it's a unit where everything is new except possibly the circuit board (factory refurb), but I am still really impressed they did that when my iPod was past warranty! I've actually heard several stories similar to this. A buddy of mine told his dad to go talk to a genius after he broke his iphone screen after dropping it on concrete. They said "ya we've seen this before" and replaced it. Probably not a bad move, I think they made the guy an apple fan for life.
