well thats the steps you should take to diagnose a problem pretty simple to split things up and see what the source of your problems are if it works its your router or connections to/from it. If not its ur computer not taking an ip address and go from there. You can also use the cable that u previously used to connect modem to router and that would eliminate that being a problem since it did give you internet to your wireless clients
