I have the 3000... the only difference between the 3000 and 3100 is Abalone inlays for the 3000 and Mother of Pearl inlays for the 3100.
The 3X00 models are just beautiful instruments... and the Ebony fretboard is just so nice to play.
From what I hear, the Al-2000's are also very great bang for your buck, but the 3X00 is definitly a stepup.
I havent played a 2000 but I hope to get one soon.. (Got to sell my other guitar first)
